I also played with colour combinations assuming that the white of the page would be one of the colours.
The 5 objects I selected were chosen to come from different parts of the house, in the back of my mind I was making a picture dictionary for adults learning a second language.

The colours are a bit faint, I chose blue and purple intense pencils. The stapler at the top was done boldly but I didn't like the fuzzy effect, the lines are cleaner and a better description of the objects that I chose.

These are a bit bolder but there's still a lot of white in the picture and I want something bolder than this. Following on from the last exercise I redrew the objects in black pencil.

Then traced them in black ink to give a strong line to scan.

I also succumbed to the urge to put them in an S shape, S is for silly.......
Like this I could then play with different colour arrangements and I wasn't forced to use a white background or do a lot of colouring in.
The invert button gives you lots of unexpected colour combinations, these are the ones with black, surprising as the colour that was inverted was a pale pink.
These are my 2 colour versions. It's a game that you can play forever, the final colour combination depends on the audience for the image and how much detail is required. Most of my colour combinations are quite predictable, pale colours for the blades of the scissors and the bowl of the spoon. I do like the inverted versions but I think my favourite is the yellow and green, 2 colour combination. The images are flat, no shadow or shading to represent volume, I like them that way but I am keeping it deliberately simple. Shading and volume can be represented by different strengths of colour even with a 2 colour combination, I've done it with my pencil drawings but I had another little go with the computer to modify them.
It gets a bit addictive.....!
