Research Point - My own work

What work have I most enjoyed making? What are closest to what I'm interested in? I've just finished Drawing 2 and some of the pieces have to be from this.

Detail

These daffodils are a small section of an A2 drawing mixing the flowers in all their stages from bud to decay. I liked the simplicity of the line work and the chance to really study the flowers. I want to convey to the viewer how beautiful the flowers were in all their stages of life.

Living things

This was a painting made using bird feathers which I drew into to highlight the head of the bird. I like adding detail to lose backgrounds, capturing living things and looking for beauty.

More living things. I enjoyed adding unexpected art for visitors to find.

This lady was captured on the train. I draw a lot of people, they don't all work out as well as this, I panic that they will spot me and complain, but sometimes I get into the flow and the almost draw themselves.

These are some of the paper making machines at the Paper Trail Museum in Hemel Hempstead I count engines on some levels as living things. This project also involved documenting something that people don't always see and looking at detail.

Reportage

This is a drawing of my mum making pizzas in her kitchen and my son fixing the brakes on my car both documenting moments from everyday life.

There is plenty of ugliness in the world, I want to focus on prettier things.

Angles

Although I've tried I haven't the patience for lining up perspective so I just draw what I see but I do like a good angle.

Technical illustration

In my day job I'm a veterinary nurse working in a big referral centre. I have made drawings which have been published in the veterinary press. I really enjoy trying to explain things in a clear and visually appealing way.beagle pulses annotated
I can't get a pdf to display as an image so please click on this link to see a more complicated diagram.
I've always liked drawing living things whether that is people, animals, plants or engines.  I'm working to give them some background and through that I've developed an interest in buildings and urban areas but I find it difficult to embed my people in their environment in a way that looks natural. I'm also obsessed with trying to capture movement.

Where is this all leading?

Clearly medical illustration is an area that appeals to me but I'm also keen on explaining things visually. I'm also fascinated by reportage although I find it very difficult, maybe I need to work on narrative first?
